Pagekins

For readers and their grown-ups

Your reading. Your privacy.

Pagekins privacy policy

The short version

Pagekins remembers where you are in your books and which reading friends you’ve met. You do not need to tell us your name or create an account to read. There are no adverts in the app.

When you download a story or visit this website, the computers delivering it receive technical information about the request. Your grown-up can read the details below and contact us with questions.

1. Who we are

Pagekins is a phonics reading app for iOS, iPadOS and Android. This policy covers the Pagekins apps, our book and pet download service, this website and messages you send us.

The operator responsible for the personal information described in this policy is Stagebolt. Contact: support@pagekins.com.

2. Reading activity and device storage

The app saves information needed for reading and practice: book and page progress, reading dates and duration, completed pages, warm-up responses and word-practice history, reader preferences, and pet rewards and selections. It also stores downloaded books and artwork.

This information is stored on your device. The Pagekins content service does not receive your reading-history database, warm-up ratings or pet preferences.

  • Android: reading progress and warm-up records may be included in Android backup and device transfer, depending on your device and Google settings. This is backup and restore, not live phone-to-tablet sync.
  • iPhone and iPad: reading history can sync through your private iCloud database when available and enabled. Some settings and practice records remain local. Apple manages the iCloud account and service.

The app does not require a Pagekins login and does not ask for a child’s name, email address, date of birth, contacts, microphone, camera or precise location. Reading activity describes use of the app; it is not a diagnosis or an assessment of a child’s ability.

3. Book downloads and technical information

To fetch catalogues, books and pets, the app connects to services hosted on Google Cloud. Those requests necessarily include an IP address and information about the requested resource. Hosting and operational logs may record the request time, requested address or book/pet identifier, response status, browser or app technical details, and error information.

We use this technical information to deliver content, investigate faults, maintain availability and protect the service against misuse. We do not use it for advertising or to create marketing profiles of children. Downloads use HTTPS.

We do not include advertising or third-party behavioural-analytics SDKs in the current app. Apple and Google may separately process app-store, beta-testing, crash or diagnostic information under their own settings and privacy policies.

4. Website visits and support messages

This website is hosted by Vercel. Vercel receives technical request information, including IP addresses, requested pages and device/browser information, to deliver and protect the website. The site does not add advertising trackers, analytics scripts, a sign-up form or tracking cookies. Hosting providers may use technical measures needed for security and service delivery.

If you email us, we receive your email address, the message and any attachments you choose to send. We use these to reply, troubleshoot and keep a record of the request. Please have an adult contact us, and avoid sending a child’s full name, school details, photographs or other unnecessary personal information.

Beta-testing services, including TestFlight and Google Play, have their own privacy practices.

5. Children’s privacy and why we use information

Pagekins is designed for children learning to read, with help from a parent or carer. We keep reading records on the device or in the platform backup/private-sync services described above. We do not sell personal information, show behavioural advertising, or use reading activity to make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.

Where data-protection law requires a lawful basis, we rely on our legitimate interests in delivering and securing the service and answering support requests, while considering children’s interests and rights. If we need to process information to meet a legal obligation, that obligation is the basis. We do not treat a child’s use of the app as consent to marketing.

6. Who receives information

Providers involved in delivering Pagekins include Google Cloud for content hosting, Vercel for this website, Apple for private iCloud sync and TestFlight, and Google for Android backup and Google Play. Cloudflare routes messages sent to our support address to Gmail, where Google stores and processes our support mailbox. We may also disclose information when required by law or when necessary to protect the service or people’s rights.

These providers may process information outside your country, including outside the UK and European Economic Area. Applicable provider terms and safeguards govern those transfers. You can contact us for details about the arrangements relevant to your information.

Provider information: Cloudflare privacy policy, Google Cloud privacy notice, Vercel privacy policy, Apple privacy policy, and Google privacy policy.

7. How long information is kept and how to delete it

Local app records remain until you clear the app’s data, remove it, or use any applicable in-app reset controls. Removing local data does not necessarily remove platform backups or private iCloud records; manage these separately in your Google, Apple or device settings. Restoring a backup may restore app records.

Technical records are kept according to the hosting services’ configured retention and for as long as needed to operate, secure and investigate problems with the service. Support messages are kept as needed to handle the request, related follow-up and applicable legal obligations. We review continued need rather than using these records for unrelated marketing.

Contact us to request deletion of information we hold. We cannot directly erase reading records kept only on your device or in your private platform account, but can help explain the available controls. No system can guarantee absolute security; access to operational information is limited to what is needed to run and support the service.

8. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live and the circumstances, you may ask to access, correct or erase personal information, restrict its use, obtain a portable copy, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. A parent or carer may help a child exercise these rights; we may need enough information to verify the request and their authority without collecting more than necessary.

Contact us first if you have a question or concern. You can also complain to your data-protection authority: the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or the Irish Data Protection Commission, as applicable.

9. Contact and changes to this policy

For help with Pagekins or a privacy request, contact support@pagekins.com.

We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date above. Material changes affecting children’s information will be explained clearly. This policy describes the current beta, including the differences between Android and iOS.
